When is a site assessment worth arranging?

Different floors, work areas and shifts can experience completely different conditions in the same building. “Where, when and what does it affect?” is more useful than a single temperature reading or unit count.

Persistent hot spots

Picking aisles, mezzanine workstations or packing areas become noticeably warmer at busy times while offices or other zones remain comfortable.

A change in use or load

New racking, equipment, charging points, workstations or shifts can no longer suit the original cooling and ventilation arrangement.

Recurring faults

Leaks, alarms, low airflow or shutdowns repeatedly coincide with dispatch peaks, frequent door opening or several assets operating together.

Replacement or upgrade planning

Equipment condition, repair history or operating requirements have changed and the site needs to compare repair, partial replacement and staged upgrade options.

A warehouse is rarely one cooling zone

Loading, storage, picking, packing, office and plant areas operate differently. A useful assessment brings each zone’s purpose, occupancy, equipment heat, door activity and existing systems together.

Offices and occupied work areas

Record headcount, working hours, solar exposure, door activity and the exact complaint locations instead of relying on a floor-wide average.

Storage, picking and packing

Consider rack height, airflow paths, lighting and equipment heat, together with the number of people working there during peak periods.

Dispatch and loading areas

Explain shutter-door use, vehicle activity, outdoor-air entry and nearby occupied areas. Air conditioning is not a substitute for any required ventilation or exhaust solution.

Plant and service locations

Identify indoor and outdoor units, AHUs, FCUs, controls, electrical panels, drains and access arrangements so the work and supporting interfaces are clear.

Ceilings, racking, high-level work, emergency exits and busy work areas can change the isolation, protection, available work period and access equipment required.

An evening start time forms one part of the programme. Loading, dispatch, stock checks, shift changes, lift access, contractor permits and other trades also shape the actual plan, including any phased-work arrangement.

    Allow time for control resets, basic operating checks, drain and alarm review, clearing the work area and reporting open items.

“Switched back on” is not a complete handover

The handover should match the work performed. Operations teams need to know which assets or zones were addressed, what was isolated and restarted, which checks were completed, and what remains open.

Can the work be arranged by zone and available work period?

You can request phased work and separate available work periods. We will review equipment relationships, power and control isolation, access, testing and restart requirements, then confirm the practical arrangement and operational coordination.

Can I get a quotation from the floor area and number of units?

Those figures are useful starting points, but the site use, affected zones, equipment condition, operating hours, access constraints and required work all shape the quotation.

Are cold rooms and product-temperature systems included?

They are not automatically included. Cold rooms, freezer rooms, product-temperature systems and process cooling involve different equipment, risks and specialist requirements, so the actual system and responsibility must be confirmed separately.

How should repair and replacement be compared after repeated faults?

Review the fault and repair history, then compare repair, partial replacement and upgrade options against equipment condition, load, controls, supporting interfaces and shutdown risk.

What photos should I take before enquiring?

Only photograph equipment exteriors, equipment label, controllers, alarms and visible symptoms from ground level or another safe position. Do not dismantle equipment, climb, or approach live, moving or restricted areas.
